43 Air School Achievers

Jonathan Collins joined 43 Air School, Port Alfred, in May of 2010. He graduated with the ICAO CPL ME-IR before qualifying as an instructor shortly thereafter.

In February 2012 he joined the instructor pool in Port Alfred conducting ab-initio flight training. During this time airline operating procedures and philosophies where just being formally introduced, for the first time ever, at a Part 141 ATO at an airline level of pitch. As a result the integration into the PTC culture of Standard Operating Procedures, Risk Management and Aeronautical Decision Making had an elementary foundation in place.

Following just over two years of flight instruction towards many a students initial commercial license's, the opportunity to join PTC Aviation and learn to fly a Boeing 737NG under the mentorship of two international carrier training captains became a reality.

In April of 2014, Jonathan joined PTC and qualified on the Boeing 737NG Type Rating Preparation Program. His training did not end there. Following this, a massive developmental phase began at PTC. To become an instructor qualified on the Boeing 737NG meant that Jonathan had to complete a variety of courses to equip him with the necessary tools to give effective and meaningful instruction on the Boeing FSTD.

Courses included AIMS, Multi Crew Cooperation Facilitation, Flight Simulator Instruction, LOFT Facilitation and various other workshops to qualify.

The culmination of the above resulted in being awarded an "FSTD Authorization" on the Boeing 737NG. This qualification is issued by the regulator and permitted Jonathan to conduct training towards type rating on any PTC Aviation training program and training device.

With his creative approach and keen eye for detail, Jonathan become the Lead 737NG Instructor reporting directly to the Head of Training. This entailed planning of students courses and ensuring that everything when according to plan, of which it did.

He has always taken the time to be a team member with both staff and students alike.

After successfully training numerous candidates to Type Rating, Jonathan was selected to join FlySafair in the capacity of a First Officer on the Boeing 737 Domestic Fleet. He will also retain some training duties at PTC Aviation to bring his own line experience to the clients he trains.

We would like to congratulate Jonathan Collins for his dedication to the team and for accomplishing what he set out to do.
