Attie Niemann
CEO

Attie started his Aviation career in the South African Air force as an Air Combat Fighter pilot. Here, he flew many Operational Combat Missions on Mirage & Impala Fighter jets with 2, 3 and 7 Squadrons as a Flight Leader.

At this time, he was also the Airshow display pilot on the Mirage F1CZ Aircraft for the Airforce. After leaving the SAAF, he founded Streamline Aviation. In 1998 he sold this company to Imperial Holdings, a JSE listed company. Through this merger, at the age of 36 he joined National Airways & Finance Corporation (NAFCO) and was appointed as Group Executive Director Operations. He was a major shareholder of NAFCO, the holding Company at the time.

Under his leadership, NAC expanded its Fixed Wing and Helicopter Charter, as well as its International Operations and Training Divisions to the largest in Africa. NAC grew to become Africa’s largest Aviation Operation, which is still highly respected and successful.

He was instrumental in the Acquisition of 43 Air School in 2002, and has been a board member since.

In 2007, he founded 43 Advanced Training in Lanseria Airport and in 2009, he was appointed CEO of 43 Air School.  In 2014, Attie co-founded PTC Aviation.

A Passionate entrepreneur, he also founded ATCON Construction as well as Funda & Go B2B (which are both successful IT companies in Toronto in Canada).

With nearly 40 years of aviation & business experience, he is also passionately interested in Information Technology, Education &Training, as well as History, Anthropology, Architecture, Science and Nature.

Shaun Musson
Director: Finance

Shaun joined the 43 Air School team in 2004. Having been promoted from a management position at NAC, he gave up the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg and relocated to the tranquil town of Port Alfred where he met and married Claire. They became the proud parents of their daughter Kayleigh in 2011. Shaun’s career started in the banking sector where he gained valuable experience in mortgage and commercial lending as well as divisional management. Having graduated with a B Comp from Unisa, Shaun seized an opportunity to further his financial career in the aviation industry and joined NAC as the accountant of their helicopter division in 1997. Shaun’s love for all things flying is matched by his keen interest in most forms of motor sport. He is well traveled and shares his love of the outdoors and nature, which is abundant, in the Eastern Cape, with his family.

Ockert Smit
Director: Maintenance

Ockert joined the 43 Air School team in 2009.  His career started in the aviation sector in 1994 where he completed his apprenticeship with Denel Aviation on Dassault Mirage F1 and Airmacchi MB-326. Qualified as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, Ockert applied his knowledge in the Unmanned and Manned aircraft industry and traveled the world in doing so.

Ockert’s key focus is to ensure that 43 Air School has the safest fleet of aircraft and helicopters in the industry. He is backed by a team of Aircraft Maintenance Engineers and industry specialists and that is what makes his role in Aircraft Maintenance at 43 Air School AMO 046 so rewarding.
